Jerome, Arizona
Old Copper
Mining Town
..a popular motorcycle haven for Arizona’s
bikers...
One of the most popular destinations in Arizona for motorcycles on the weekend. Just about every Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting, main street is alive with bikers and their motorcycles lined up along the street. A great place to show off your ride since Jerome is a major tourist attraction. During the tourist season Jerome is packed with folks wandering about the streets. People visit Jerome not just for the many unique shoppes selling antiques and artwork but more because of the history of this old Copper mining town. .
..a ‘billion dollar view’...
Jerome lies on the east side of the Mingus Mountains on Cleopatra Hill above the old copper mine. It is about 25 miles east of Prescott and 20 miles from Sedona. The view northeast towards Sedona is breathtaking. Some refer to it as the ‘Billion Dollar View”. Bikers enjoy the road up from the Verde Valley, Cottonwood, Clarkdale, and Sedona and then take the twisties over the mountain down to Prescott. See google map.
..the Douglas Mansion
is a state park...
The short ride thru town gives you the feel of riding your bike thru the quaint little villages of Italy. But there is more to Jerome than riding your bike thru town. While you are there check out the Grand Hotel at the top of town. Once the most sophisticated hospital in the west it is now a hotel with fine dining. Take time out to visit the Douglas Mansion now an Arizona State Park Museum. When you are in the museum you must check out the model of the underground mine.
..live music at the
Spirit Room
on the weekends...
There are alot of great shops to spend time in looking around. Check out the ‘places to eat‘ links to the right. I have eaten in all of them and they’re all good. If ya get thirsty rest yur steel out front of the Spirit Room (if ya can find a spot) and order up a tall one inside. Both the Spirit Room and Paul and Jerry’s, just a few doors down, are great rest stops. On the weekends they usually have some pretty good bands too! Check out the Gold King Mine and the old ghost town of Haynes just north of town. Once you ride to Jerome you will go back again and again!

Other Arizona Towns
GOLD KING MINE
If you have the time when you ride through Jerome, Arizona you should visit the Gold King Mine and Ghost Town. Located at the north end of town just up the hill you will arrive at the Ghost Town which is the Gold King mine, Haynes, Arizona. The Ghost Town has a great collection of old trucks and mining equipment and even an old sawmill that is in operation.
Built inn 1926, this spanish mission-style building was initially a hospital, United Verde Hospital. It was the Arizona’s most modern hospital at the time. When the mine closed so did the hospital. After many years of being vacant it has since been remodeled and opened as a hotel and restaurant.
VERDE CANYON
Located just a few miles down the side of the hill in Clarkdale, Arizona one can find a ‘wilderness adventure’ riding the Verde Canyon Railroad. The train passes towering crimson pinnacles near ancient ruins passing through a 680 foot tunnel. The round trip lasts 4 hours from Clarkdale to the Perkinsville Ranch and back.
Passengers have the choice of riding first and coach class or caboose. It you have the time this journey is a must!
MINGUS MOUNTAIN
Approximately 12 miles of scenic beauty and twisty road Mingus Mountain rises to about 7500 feet through the Prescott National Forest.
From Prescott Valley to the old mining town of Jerome and mining community of Clarkdale one can enjoy the fantastic views of the Verde Valley, Sedona and the Mongollon Rim. Highway 89A is well maintained with a rest stop and campground at the top.
CONNER HOTEL
The history of "Connor's Corner" began in the late 1880s when Dave Connor built the Stone Saloon. Because mining towns were not known for their permanency, people thought Connor was crazy to build this building out of stone instead of the usual wood and canvas structures that were far more common at that time. Take the time to stop in at the Spirit Room for a cold drink. Live music on the weekends.
