The Valley Mountain Run is quite scenic as it takes you on the ‘Red Rock Highway’ and through the old mining town of Jerome over the Mingus mountains and back to Prescott.
The ride itself will take about 4 to 5 hours, depending on how many stops you make. The ride begins riding out of Prescott on Gurley street which turns into highway 69. Higway 69 will take you through Prescott Valley and then Dewey where you head northeast on highway 169, aka Cherry Road.
Highway 169 connects highway 69 to Interstate 17 where you will head north towards Sedona. Stay on Interstate 17 for about 25 miles and exit at highway 179. This is the scenic Red Rock highway which will take you past several large red rock monoliths and stops in Sedona at highway 89A.
Here you will head west and south on highway 89A until you reach Mingus road. Take a right and ride a few miles to Main St. in Cottonwood. Take a right on Main street and ride thru Old Town Cottonwood and once you go through old town Main street becomes South Broadway. About five miles down the road you will come to the Main Street of the town of Clarkdale. Make a left and ride through the town of Clarkdale. Make a left after the park on 11th street and ride this road straight all the way and it will turn into highway 89A which will take you up the hill to Jerome and on over the Mingus mountains back to Prescott.
Take a look at the map by clicking on the image provided. I have marked a few good stops to make along the way.
